Thumbs up!

Good afternoon!

Just stopping in quickly to post this card I made for this week's challenge over at The Ribbon Carousel. The challenge this week is "colour your world" - to use your favourite colouring medium. This cool dude is colouring using copics.

I also pulled out the fabulous new 7 Gypsies paper pad I picked up at my LSS - DAT'S - it's called Mykonos - I LOVE this paper line - I have already made two more cards using it and can't seem to stop!

Well, I'm planning to spend the rest of the afternoon in the garden. Hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Check this out - I was chosen as a "Top Spool" over at The Ribbon Carousel for this card! This week's challenge is "Colour your World" - choose your favourite colouring medium. I have a card made to share just as soon as I can take a photo.

I finally had a chance to pay a visit to Vintage Pixie yesterday and what a treat! Just lookie what I found for the stash!!! Yumm! There's lots more fun stuff, but I need to find space in my house!!!

Together April 2012

I created this layout for the baby album of my girlfriend, Jennifer whose second child (Rhylan) was born in April. You may recognize the colours and papers as I used the same for her card. I meant to post this awhile ago, but kept forgetting as I couldn't post before she rec'd the gift of course!

I had so much fun creating this layout and these colours were really fun to work with! Lucky me, I got to have a wonderful cuddle with little Rhylan last night!

For all you local gals - have you heard.....there is a pre-holiday sale at DAT'S right now - everything in the store is 25% off! Quick, run - if this cold, rainy weather continues we are going to need to stock up!

Cheers,
Shanna :)

Garden photos

Good morning,
I promised to share some garden photos......in no particular order, here are some shots of my beloved perennial garden, mostly close-ups.....

Columbine

Iris

Thrift

Chives

Tulips & Basket of Gold

I believe this tree is an ornamental plum - I am much better at identifying perennials...

more tulips, basket of gold & seedum - I love seedum - great for fall colour

Oh, and here is Pickle Pants helping with the watering - this was before we were getting any rain and before we had the water barrels set up - we have three which really helps reduce the amount of water we are pumping out to keep all these plants happy. At some point, I will have to share the before and after shots of the landscaping - things have come a long way over the last two summers!

Lilacs - note to self - remember to prune these soon. Apparently, lilacs are meant to be gently pruned right after they bloom as they begin forming next years buds quickly.

I may be back later with a card, I have a few to share, but need to upload the photos and I am on the wrong computer.

We are almost at the weekend!

Happiness is....

Hi all,

I received an exciting email from Fluffy a few days back and just couldn't wait to share......

I have been asked to be a guest designer at Cupcake Craft Challenges for the month of July! Thanks so much for the invite!

And here is just a different version of a card I made a few months ago. I have used all of these up, but am thinking maybe I should make a few more.... love the colours.

Hope you are having a great week!

Just a little note

Good afternoon everyone,

I think I have just enough time to submit one more entry over at Ribbon Carousel Challenge where the theme was music this week. Once I got going, I just couldn't stop at one music-themed card - I guess now I have one on hand next time I need a thank you for our piano teacher!

There are now three of us playing - my two sons, Chester and Pickle Pants (has had about 6 lessons) and myself - our teacher and I have been joking about a "family rate." Our recital was on Saturday and went very well! Pickle Pants got a little nervous and had some trouble finding middle C - first recital, but I am one proud Mama! It is a big deal for Pickle Pants (who is six) to get up in front of that many people! Chester even played a duet (Dutch Dance) with his teacher and they sounded fantastic! We certainly do not have a grand piano - we play on an antique family heirloom that belonged to my Grandma & Grandpa but was rarely played - it is a beautiful piano and we are so happy to have it. My parents had it shipped clear across the province after my Grandma passed so that we could keep it in the family. It now sits proudly in our kitchen. This was the reason that we started taking piano lessons in the first place, and I'm so glad for it! If my boys continue playing (and I hope they do!), I would love to hear them play on a piano like this someday!

Best run and get dinner going - tonight we are attending the recital of Danderella's daughter who lives up the street - her girls and my boys have been friends since they were born and are really more like close cousins. They are always there to support one another for things like this and I love that!

Cheers to an evening of beautiful music!

A teacher gift!

Thanks for stopping by today! I hope you've had a great weekend!

Here is one of the clipboards I have altered to for teacher gifts. I always put the teacher's name on the back and add fun ribbons etc on the clip part. I used a variety of ribbon and twine this time. The challenge over at Crazy 4 Challenges is to use floss, string or twine, so I would like to enter my project over there.

I'm sorry, I realized too late that I forgot to crop my photo. Here is the front.....

And here is the back. I love making these and the teachers seem to enjoy them. They actually don't take much time to put together either, especially if you have a fun "schoolish" type line to work with. I am getting close to using up this fab Bo Bunny line - I will miss it when it's gone!

Better run,

It's raining and my boys are watching a movie so I'm hoping to finish up the last teacher clipboard!

Cheers,

Shanna :)

Thank you

Happy Friday!

The challenge this week over at the Ribbon Carousel Challenge is MUSIC - perfect as we have Piano Recital on Saturday and I've been wanting to get the card and gift done for our piano teacher. Here is the first card I came up with.

And here is the inside...

I had some fun playing around with this one and used a variety of fun stuff. I admit that I struggled a bit with making the fabric work with the card, but in the end I think it turned out okay. Now just to finish the gift....hope to get that done tonight.

It is a PA day today for my boys and they have a bunch of friends over. Better run as the weather is beautiful and the group is ready to run in the sprinkler!

Cheers,

Shanna :)

What I used:

stamps: CTMH - A little Thanks, Encore, SU - Notably Ornate

Cricut cart: A child's year (my fave)

music note fabric from fabricland

SU ribbon

Tattered Angels glimmer mist - Suede

If you give a man a boat.....

he may just take you out in it - on Mother's Day!!!!! Even if it is very windy and not very sunny and somewhat miserable...........am I a sweet wife of what?!?! (Or perhaps a bit of a dufis...)

Don't you think that maybe I should get to choose the activity on Father's Day? Hmmm....what should I make him do....

Yes, there was definitely sacrifice involved - I would have loved to spend the afternoon scrapping or making cards, but he REALLY wanted to take out the new boat for the first time, so we made it a family affair. The deal was NO FISHING - since as you know, or maybe you don't, if a man starts fishing it is really difficult to get them to stop - even if they do not catch any fish!!! Thank goodness, we all agreed it was TOO COLD for fishing and so our trip out was short and we all lived to tell the tale! You can tell by the way Pickle Pants is attired here that it wasn't exactly balmy!

Well, I did manage to make him a card that is obviously appropriate. :) The theme over at Cupcake is "Boy oh Boy oh Boy" and they are looking for projects "For Dad" at Little Red Wagon, so I'll share mine today.

Do you see the shading around the edges of my image? This is the first time I've tried this so I'm not sure if I like it or not, but I think it is growing on me. It was fun to try something different. It is a pretty straighforward card and again is smallish in size as I geared the size to fit the image.

I have used Basic Grey papers from the Oliver collection once again.

Three cheers for making it half way through the week - weekend please come soon.....

You're the Best Mom!

A real quick post for tonight - my yard and garden have been demanding too much time - or well, it has been reducing the amount of time I can spend blogging, that's for sure. Also, we've been having some rather nice weather this past couple of weeks - finally, so like I always say "get while the gettin's good!" Though I have quite a lot I could be sharing all things considered, I seem to be having a hard time sitting down long enough to be posting much.

So for tonight, I'll just share a card that I had already uploaded and edited. It is an alternate version of a card I made awhile back, so if you recognize it that's why. I do love the simplicity of the pinwheel and how it makes such excellent use of a variety of patterned papers all on one card - a fantastic way to use up scraps! I hope to use some fabric to make one sometime and stitch around the edges of the pinwheel as well - it may take some time at the machine, but I think it would be worth the effort in the end.

Oh and look at that, I even photographed the inside - this was definitely pre-garden weather!

I hope you've had a great start to your week. I promise to share photos of said garden soon - I was actually out there with camera in hand on the weekend to capture things as the begin to bloom. My first iris came out this morning and my lupins are just about ready.

Cheers,

Shanna :)

What I used:

papers: CTMH Key to my heart (retired)

ink: tulip

stamps: CTMH May Word Puzzle (retired)

embellishements: stitching, new CTMH buttons - love these!

Congratulations!

Happy Friday!

This is the card I made for the Christening we attended a couple of weeks ago. I have had this image for sometime now and was just waiting for the perfect opportunity to use it. When I first saw the image, it seemed to portray the love between mother and child. What do you think?

Sorry for the quality of the photo, I didn't get to take a photo before leaving the house and so had to take a quick one on a pew at the Church. :) I didn't want to miss photographing it as I do like how it turned out.

Quickie post again today as I have to putter in the garden a bit. Even though we have had a high of only 11 degrees celcius here today, I had better get some veggies in or they won't be ready until after the first frost - lol! Veggie gardening in Northwestern ON is risky business! Hoping to be back to post again on Sunday.

Cheers,
Shanna :)

Happy Bday!

Good afternoon!
Today's blogpost is brought to you from Geraldton, ON where I have come for work this week. Just a quick one night trip this time!

So, I noticed that the challenge over at Cupcake Craft Challenges this week is to use "things with tails" - I got this card all ready and then realized he doesn't have a tail, but he does have a scary lookin tongue - well at least the lil dudes on the back ground paper (love this paper) have tails! lol - am I losing it or what?!?!

I should say that this is a little card, I was working with some scraps and sort of customized the size of the cardbase based on the size of the image - this way I end up with really strange card sizes, but it makes it fun! Oh, and here is the inside, not that it is fancy, but I like to show the inside once in awhile as I never leave it blank unless it will be used as a notecard.

Since the challenge at Wee Memories is Anything Goes, I am going to enter my card over there as well.

I hope you are having a fantastic week!

Cheers,
Shanna :)

Love is all you need

Just stopping in to post a card I made for a friend who welcomed her second child recently. I used the same papers I used on the layout I made for her as part of a group gift - they are CTMH papers from a promo - I think it was Key to my Heart. Anyhow, they were fun springy colours to play with and I had some fun using my "A Child's Year" Cricut cartridge. I don't use my cricut nearly enough....

Hope you had a lovely weekend! This has been the nicest we've had so far and luckily this was the weekend we chose to have our family day - for the children we work with and their families. The weather was absolutely perfect - not too hot, not too cold and perfectly sunny!

The garden is definitely competing with my scrap stash at the moment - but I am itching to get back in the scrap space - I even cut out some stuff to start teacher gifts last night - we'll see how long that takes me!

Gonna keep it short for tonight, there are still dishes to do!

Something that flies

Happy Friday!

Today I have a card to share for this week's challenge over at Charisma Cards.

Their challenge this week is "things that fly". This adorable image was so fun to colour - thanks Caroline for sharing this cute stamp with me!

I am so glad to finally make a card using this image and these fun Oliver papers from Basic Grey!

I had to stitch on this one and I used some more of those fun papers on the inside.

I am keeping this short as I have been having some blogger trouble. Although I have not been able to visit much lately, when I have I've had difficulty leaving comments at a lot of blogs! So a big shout out to all of you who haven't heard from me for awhile. I'll be back soon or as soon as blogger smartens up!

Take care and Happy Weekend,

Shanna :)
