Dictionary pages

Okay, so it's Monday - not my favourite day of the week, but it has been a pretty good day so far.
Today's card(s) are for the current tic tac toe challenge at The Paper Players. I have chosen to use flowers, designer paper and the "free space" to make my line.

I have used a page I pulled from an old dictionary. It still hurts me to pull pages out of a book - you know, it just goes against everything I was taught as a small child - however, it is in the name of making a fun card and I have collected a few old dictionaries with this sort of thing in mind, so it isn't like we cannot look  up words in our house. Here is a close up of the flower I made.

And here is another quick card I made up at the same time, leaving it without a sentiment which can be added later or used as is for a note card.

Word of the day:
innocuous - harmless, not offensive
Hope you all have a fantastic week!
Shanna :)

What I used:
papers: from the scrap bin & an old dictionary
punches - SU and EK success
stamp: SU - Tiny Tags
buttons - misc.

Dream for tomorrow

Here is my take on Laurel's current Inspired By challenge. I went with flowers and worked with the colours from the photo though they are more vibrant in these papers.

I hope you've had a fantastic weekend! It was pretty busy here, so keeping it short.

Peace Love Joy

Hooray it's Friday!

Switching gears - I have decided I had better get cracking on my Christmas stash. Here is one of the quick cards I made.

And here is the inside.

I would like to share over at Christmas Card Challenges.

Catch of the Day

Is it Friday yet? Urgh, I am so tired this week - can't wait for the weekend! Enough whining from me, at least I have a card to share today!

This is my second take on the current challenge at Inspired by. To see the inspiration photo, please scroll down two posts and check it out - it's a good one!

I would also like to share at The Ribbon Carousel for their Anything goes challenge.

I may be a bit scarce the next couple of days as I'm setting out on a road trip for work. Please cross you fingers for me as this trip has been cancelled a total of four times (three times due to bad weather) and I would really like to finally get there! I've been anxious these last few days - I think maybe I'll feel better once I finally get there.

Word of the Day:
Chester asked me about this one a couple days ago and I had no idea, so we looked it up...

ornithology - a branch of zoology dealing with birds

Ciao for now,
Shanna :)

Grateful

Hello and thank you for visiting!

I don't know about you, but I am still trying to get used to the new blogger interface. Some of the updates are fun, but my posts may look a little funny for the next while until I figure it all out!

A co-worker asked me to make her some thank you cards and this is one of them. I was inspired by two different challenges that were looking for butterflies - Our Creative Corner and  the current Tuesday Trigger in the Moxie Fab World. I also used the sketch at The Paper Players - you will be seeing more of this one!

I had some fun with my Tattered Angels glimmer mist...gotta do that more often!
A close up of the butterfly, punched out of an old book, and a shot of the inside.

I just thought I'd share a few shots from our park excursion this afternoon. The boys had a few friends over and were looking forward to some soccer at the park. First we stopped at the playground and I hopped on the swing while they played. I had my camera of course and snapped a few shots. Everyone needs a good swing once in awhile - feels so good!

And, since the younger two boys decided they wanted to be the "photographers" and sit on the sidelines rather than play soccer with the older crew, I was assigned the position of goaltender. Hey, at least I was getting some exercise! We played two on two and stopped counting when we were down 4-0.

Doodlepants set up his friends for some gaming prior to leaving for the park...

I hope you've had a fabulous weekend. What have you been up to?
Take care,
Shanna :)

Today, tomorrow & forever

 Happy Saturday!
Thanks so much for stopping by!

You still have time to join us for our very first challenge over at DAT'S Designing Divas where we are celebrating National Scrapbooking Day - whip up a project with a scrapbooking theme and then drop by and link up. We can't wait to see what you have to share! Click here to see my original post about the challenge and my Happy Scrappy Day card.

Today's layout is for Laurel's Inspired by challenge. Here is the inspiration photo:

And here is my layout - gasp, yes a layout! I am starting to get more in the mood to do some scrapping - which is awesome since there is no shortage of photos around here! The inspiration photo made me think of several things - maps, travel, caring for the earth, recycling - the possibilities seemed endless, but this is where I began - with the colours and travel. These are photos from our East Coast vacation last summer - these particular shots are from our fabulous day in Halifax. That huge rope made for an awesome backdrop for photos. We ended up using this family shot of the four of us as our Christmas Card photo.

I LOVE these fabulous papers that I picked up at DAT'S awhile back. If I'm not mistaken, there is still some of this line left. Since I wanted to use the sail boat charm, I took apart an embellishment from the 30 brads pack that came with the line and made my own.

I had to add this photo of the Canadian flag - we were so struck by the patriotism that we saw in Halifax. There were Canadian flags everywhere and they were playing music by Canadian artists in all the shops - it made us so proud to be Canadian!

I had a tough time figuring out where to journal on here since I didn't want to distract too much form the photos of our family - in the end I went with tone on tone papers and tucked it under the edge of my main photo.

I hope you are having a great weekend so far!
Shanna :)

Friends

Hooray, the weekend is almost here!!!

I'v had this tree cut out and sitting on my craft table for months - I love my trees - and it has finally found its home on a card!

I don't use a lot of yellow as a rule, but since the challenge this week at The Ribbon Carousel is "Colour-a-licious" (to use bright colours), I decided to step outside of my comfort zone. Isn't that the best part about challenges?

I also had in mind while making this, the challenge at Crazy for Challenges - buttons! Well, I managed to use LOTS of buttons on this one! The buttons along the bottom are meant to be "windfalls" - I really needed something down there in that space and suddenly it hit me - apples fall off of trees (and make a big mess in my backyard...) so there you have it!

I LOVE these papers too - so many fun paper lines out these days, and MME are some of my faves!

Word of the day:
indignant - filled with or marked by indignation
indignation - anger aroused by something unjust, unworthy or mean

Thanks for stopping by,
Shanna :)

p.s. Snappy - are you proud of me - I used my cricut again!

What I used:
papers: MME Lost & Found Two - Ruby
buttons: CTMH
ribbon & tiny tag punch: SU
background stamp: CTMH Live Inspired

Thank you portrait

Happy Wednesday!

I did it again, made a card with no stamping!!! Just stickers, great papers and a few embellishments! I should do this more often, makes for some fun and quick cards to add to the stash!
I would like to share today's card at:
and
Paper Sundaes - anything goes

Weather update - I am happy to report that most of our snow and ice have now melted thanks to the fact that the temp rose above zero yesterday afternoon. I am going to make another attempt to visit Marathon next week - this time I will cross my fingers and my toes - this week was the third time we had to cancel!!!

A comedy break - does anybody remember Kindergarten Cop? Well, my boys watched it on their snow day Monday - I'm pretty sure that Doodlepants' fave part was when the little boy in kindergarten puts his hand up when the guest arrives in the classroom and says "Boys have a penis. Girls have a vagina!" and is rewarded with fits of giggles from his classmates. Well, there were lots of giggles at our house too - I had forgotten about that part!

Take care,
Shanna :)

what I used:
papers: Bo Bunny ETC. (I believe there are still a few sheets of this fab stuff at DAT'S)

Live Fully, Laugh Often, Love Deeply

Here is the second card that I made for Laurel's Inspired by Challenge this week.

This time, I went with the bicycle and flowers as well as the vintage feel. I had some fun punching flowers out of an old dictionary I picked up either at the Thrift store. The seam binding worked well here except that I have decided it was a bit too wide for this card. If I were to do this again, I would change the ribbon to something thinner. Oh well, I still like the overall feel of the card.

I would also like to share my card at Crazy for Challenges where the theme is buttons!

Well, yesterday was a snow/ice day! No buses and I had to cancel my overnight trip out of town. We stayed close to home and I managed to steal away into my scrap space - it felt so good! I am anxious to see what the weather is going to do. I am scheduling this post - so it is Monday night right now and we have ice and snow covering everything. The poor little yellow crocus that bloomed a couple of days ago is not so happy now!

Take care,
Shanna :)

What I used:
papers: MME Lost & Found Two - Rosy
stamps: CTMH
embellishments: random buttons, antique seam binding from Vintage Pixie, paper flowers punched out of an old dictionary, wooden buttons (NEW at DAT'S)

Sweet Baby Love

If you are looking for my DAT'S Designing Divas Blog Hop post, click here or scroll down one post. There is still time - you have until Midnight (EST) tonight, Monday, April 16th to complete the hop and qualify for the prize.

Our first challenge is to make a project with a scrapbooking theme - sure hope you can join us! This challenge is open until April 30th. We look forward to seeing your creations!

Now for today's post:
This is the inspiration photo for this week's challenge at Inspired By. I love it and it was just what I needed to kick the lack of mojo! Thanks Laurel!

I started off with something basic - I didn't even stamp on this one!

I would also like to share over at Little Red Wagon where the challenge is to use a spring palette.

WORD OF THE DAY:

I've decided to start something new, a bit of a personal goal I've set for myself. I am an avid reader and often come across words that I need to know more about. Sometimes the word is entirely new to me. Sometimes I understand the word in the context of the story perhaps, but would not be able to confidently use it in everyday speech. I have challenged myself to consult my dictionary more frequently to look up these words and it has been fun!

Of course, I encourage my boys, who are readers as well, to do the same, and would like to be a good role model in this respect. So, I am going to aim to post a new word every couple of posts or so, more to help me stick to my goal than anything else. If you happen to learn a new word, well that's a bonus!

Today's word

proponent - one who argues in favour of something.

I am a proponent of taking time for oneself to do such things as scrapbook.

Thanks for stopping by!
Shanna :)

Hello!

I am back from my time away and my conference. Fun times - I will share about that later. For now, just a quick post since I've been mia in blog land for so long.

Once again, I've put together a fun card using Bo Bunny's ETC. line. I often have difficulty using stickers, but I must admit it wasn't hard at all with these and lots of fun too!

I would like to share my card at:
Paper Sundaes - Sundae Bar - I used die cuts & kraft

I am still pretty pooped from being away from home for so long, but will hopefully be back to the regularly scheduled program in a few days!

Cheers,
Shanna :)
