Just my type

Hooray for Friday!

I am playing along over at Unity for Friends with Flair.

I was forced to take these photos in less than stellar lighting and so the colours look way better in person. The green behind the typewriter is bolder and more vibrant which makes the colour combo super fun - in the photo though, I admit it looks a little boring.

Joy to the Earth - Jingle Belles

Well, I am squeaking in just in time for the challenge at Jingle Belles. I finally carved out time to put my card together last night for the current challenge which is to use re-cycled, re-used and up-cycled elements. Had to wait for morning light to photograph my card.

I was at the Thrift Store last week with my youngest son (who LOVES Thrift shopping) and I came across a cute vintage card in the stationary section - it was die cut and used as my focal point. The music notes behind, you may have seen before (here) - it is the wrappings from last year's Christmas crackers!

The button is from my tin of vintage buttons. The gold foil that was fashioned into a bow was the wrapper from a Ferrero Rocher - ummmm, now I'm thinking about chocolate. Too early for that!

Since I love the font, I die-cut the inside of the vintage card to use as the sentiment on the inside of the new card.

I am pleased as punch to report that as of today, I have 27 Holiday cards ready for next Christmas!

Thanks so much for your visit!
Shanna :)

What I used:
Nestabilities - labels 28
black and cranberry cardstock

flower - Michael's bargain bin

Kamview - SMASH

Since I don't have a post ready with a current project to share, I am going to share this Smash book page that I created quite some time ago.

The photos are from family day 2014 - the day my boys and I spent our first day cross-country skiing together out at Kamview. It was one of those rare, gorgeous winter days - the snow was falling in huge, fluffy, flakes and it covered the trees, creating an absolute winter wonderland! We enjoyed giant cookies at the chalet after skiing about 7 kms exploring the trails. So glad I was able to capture these shots with my phone. It isn't always easy to get skiing photos, as carrying an actual camera is very cumbersome and my cell phone tends to freeze up when it gets cold (like most days this winter!).

I did lots of journalling on this page and enjoyed using some words stickers.

Have a great day!

Shanna :)

First Class Merry Christmas

 Hello Saturday!

I decided to make a Holiday version of my typewriter card from awhile back. A little unorthodox for a Christmas card maybe, but I quite like it! And I love stamp stamps that came with this fun set! Just had to use them on the inside.

I would like to share at Merry Monday where the challenge is Vintage.

Thanks for visiting!

So sorry

I was in need of several sympathy cards. The gentleman who passed away was an avid gardener and was famous for his dill pickles.

So, as I started to sift through things to find supplies to make these cards, I was thinking to myself how nice it would be if I had some stamps of dill pickles or something related, though I was pretty sure I didn't. At first, I was stumped and had no idea where to begin, not having found any dill pickles in my collection. However, as I continued to dig through my stamp hoard (ahem...), I came across a set that included this lovely dill that I forgot I even owned! Lucky for me, I was able to add a bit of a personal touch to the card despite the fact that they are undeniably CAS.
I decided to make a couple of thank you cards while I was at it. Sorry for the slightly wonky photos!

Since the current challenge at Shopping Our Stash is "Lost and Found" - to share something you have recently rediscovered in your craft room, I thought I would share this.

Well spring seems to have sprung here in Thunder Bay! I have been out for walks every single day since Saturday! It seems I may have gone for my last ski this past Sunday out at Lappe Nordic- 10 km in my t-shirt - nothing compares to it! Probably could have fit in a few more despite the warm temps (good base of snow in the bush), but we woke up to the pitter-patter of rain on the roof Monday morning and I think it had rained for part of the night, so the trails are not likely looking so good now. Just for the record, I will now stop being secretly (or not so secretly) happy when it snows. ;)

Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Birthday and Thank you

Happy Friday! It's Friends with Flair day over at the Unity blog! Did you notice that they have another awesome sale happening! Yikes, when I heard that, I told Donna we had better start searching for coins in the couch cushions because we just ordered last weekend - uh oh! Anyhow, I am happy to play along again and can't wait to play with all my new stuff when it arrives! Thank you for all the kind comments on the card I shared last week!

This time, I got to playing around with the feather stamp from "Strength and Dignity" and this is what I came up with. This image strikes me as very versatile and I made a few similar but different cards with it. This first was a small card since I was trying to use up a card base that I had laying around.

Here is the second one. I plan to make more of a similar nature using this stamp and a variety of papers. Wouldn't a few of these with a variety of sentiments make a nice gift set?

I would also like to share my cards at Cute Card Thursday where the challenge is "Bonny blues".

Thanks so much for your visit!
Happy Weekend!
Shanna :)

What I used:
papers - My Mind's Eye Stella and Rose
stamp - Unity from "Strength and Dignity" Sept. 2013

Ho ho ho!

I just couldn't let another week pass without playing along at Jingle Belles!

I had been trucking along so well with my Christmas cards, but then took a couple (or maybe three) weeks off to get some birthday/generic cards done and also, life got busy for a bit there, so time to get back in the game! I have missed my friends over at Jingle Belles, so I managed to find just enough time to put this sweet little singing Santa on a card for the current challenge which is to create cards that

  • incorporate music
  • are inspired by a holiday song or
  • include a holiday song title

  • I have incorporated music paper and embellishments and might have been inspired by the song "Santa Claus is coming to town!" I must admit that it was a bit tough to switch back into Christmas gear - the first few weeks after Christmas, I couldn't seem to switch out of Holiday gear, but here I am easing back in! Here is a shot of the inside. Quick and easy as this paper line came with these already printed up, vintage look and all!

I was also inspired by the fun sketch over at The Challenge! (see below)

I would like to share at:
The Challenge at Always Playing with Paper - a sketch

    and

Shopping Our Stash - The Earth has music - the music part is obvious on my card, but as for the earth, some believe Santa travels the entire world in just one night right?! - Ok, so I might be stretching it!

Jingle Belles - fa la la la la

If you haven't started your Holiday cards yet, you really must visit the girls over at Jingle Belles for inspiration - they just keep it coming every single week!

    Thanks for stopping by!

    Shanna :)

    What I used:

stamp - CTMH "Perfect Fit - Holidays" B1412
Marvy scallop punch, EK success 1 3/4 circle punch
papers - Cosmo Cricket and from the scrap bin
    Sizzix embossing folder
music note confetti (a Bday gift from Donna)

    i am thankful tree

So, apparently, I have not posted in a long while! I guess life was happening - lots of cross-country skiing, visiting with family, deadlines at work, etc.

Well, I am not saying that the mojo has returned, but rather I am working to recall it. This was my attempt - playing with my Unity stamps is always a good thing and CAS seemed a good way to wade back into my craft room!
I would love to share this card over at Friends with Flair at the Unity Stamp Company blog.

    Thanks for visiting,
    Hugs,
    Shanna :)

    What I used:
stamps - Unity "the TIME is NOW" - love that tree!
