Paper Sundaes - Sketch Challenge!

Happy Sundae!

Our challenge this week at Paper Sundaes is a sketch and here is the card I came up with. I just love a great sketch! This cutie - "Rainy Cythia" is from The Stamping Boutique - this week's sponsor.
She was just "begging" to be colored in bright cheery colors, so I pulled out my "Lime Rickey" paper pack from Basic Grey and got to work with my copics.

My baby brother is getting married in June. The Jack & Jill is this weekend as well as a Bridal shower. I am missing it since my family is in Southern Ontario and I'm up North, so this is the card that I made to send down. I thought the image was appropriate since the card is for a Bridal shower.

I was able to incorporate a challenge here since the theme this week at Raise the Bar is Three's Company - use three of anything. I have used three different patterned papers here.

And last but certainly not least -I was preparing to print my image a couple of days ago when my son got on the computer and ended up printing a full page sized image. No worries - images do not get wasted around here. Danderella's girls were over and the image was watercolored beautifully minutes later! I just had to share!
Wishing you all a Happy Sundae!
Hope you can play along!
Shanna :)
What I used:
stamps: Rainy Cynthia Digi from The Stamping Boutique, SU sentiment
papers: Basic Grey "Lime Rickey", CTMH outdoor denim
embellishments: Basic Grey stickers & buttons, embroidery floss, Me & My big Ideas icons, machine stitching

Birthday cards fit for boys...

Happy Saturday!
Since I live in a house full of boys, I am always looking to create some fun boy cards. I love it when I'm able to come up with a quickie go-to design, especially for Birthday parties for my boys friends, because I have come to terms with the fact that most of them probably get thrown out!
These were quick and fun! I used three different fun SU sets - the names of which are escaping me just now and I cannot go looking since I am on the treadmill - sorry!
Colors are: CTMH clover green, black, outdoor denim & cranberry. I also used my brand new SU tiny tag punch with a word from an old CTMH set, I think called "Random Thoughts."
Hope you are having a great weekend! My eldest is heading off to a Sliding Birthday Party for the afternoon, so it's just me and my little guy. Since he loves to craft too, I am hoping we can do just that - side by side!
Cheers,
Shanna
p.s. Don't forget to come back tomorrow to check our next challenge at Paper Sundaes!

Happy Spring from Tilda

I had intended to post this last night, but once again was too tired. I went on a road trip for work and ended up working an 11 hr day - I never realize how tired I am until I get home and then seem to crash. I really must get in the habit of scheduling my posts, it would make life a little easier. But then again, life will go on if I miss posting right? :)

Anyhow, after making my card for this week's Paper Sundae challenge (you still have time by the way), I decided I was enjoying the color scheme and the sketch I used from Friday Sketchers, and made a couple more cards. This time I used a Magnolia image. I had been wanting to color up this cutie and turn her into a springtime card and I figured it worked with these colors. I also liked how these prima flowers looked with these colors and wanted to use up a few more since they have been in my stash forever.
Here is a close up. Hope you are all having a fabulous week!
Cheers,
Shanna
p.s. for card details see Sunday's post as much of the supplies are the same.

Happy Spring....

Well, I'm posting two cards tonight because I decided to walk down the street to visit with Danderella last night and was too tired to post when I got home. :)

This first card is based on this week's sketch over at Get Sketchy. I used that funky color combo again - but I love how bright and cheery it is! Thanks Donna for letting me try out the nestabilities that I used on both cards, I may need these ones in my new collection now that I have my bug...

For this one, I used a Whiff of Joy image that Danderella shared with me months ago. I finally got around to coloring her and I love how she turned out. I have used the sketch from Lili of the Valley to complete this card. I must admit that I had some difficulty incorporating the two strips on the side and deciding where to place my sentiment, but I think it turned out ok in the end.

Here is a close up - you can tell I have used my SU spritzer tool again! LOL, I love that thing! I embellished with flowers that I picked up at DAT'S the other day $1.99 per pack of 24. Umm, I like flowers a lot...and I think I need more of these....
Since I used stitching on both cards, I am going to enter them over at Crafty Creations. And since both are spring themed, I am entering them at Stamp Something as well.
Off to visit a few blogs and then retire early as tomorrow is a travel day for work...
Cheers,
Shanna :)

Scatter Sunshine

Good evening!

Here is the card I made for this week's challenge at Limelight. They provided a great sketch as well as a challenge to focus on Sentiments. I love this fun sentiment from CTMH's April Word Puzzle (now retired). I am also entering this in Stamp Something's Challenge which is "A touch of Spring". I am in a very "springy" sort of mood which will become apparent over the next few days as I share the cards I have been working on this weekend. :) This is a very strange color combo for me, but I'm liking how cheerful these colors are.....what do you think?

I rec'd CTMH's new set Springtime in an order that just arrived on Friday and had to play with it asap. I think my favorite stamps in it are the galoshes - there are three different patterns you can stamp and then you add the outline afterwards - so fun! I cut these out and pop-dotted the second one to make it stand out a bit. I just love rubber boots! Since I have two boys who love puddles in springtime, or whenever it rains, I decided a few years ago that if I can't beat 'em, I may as well join them, and bought myself a cool pair of plaid galoshes. I get comments on them everywhere I go. :)

My boys and I had a fun time at the Winter Carnival! My youngest won 1st place in the Jello eating contest and the big guy won 2nd with his partner in the "Make a snowman with toilet paper" contest. We also won a fun artsy prize in the penny auction. All in all, a afternoon full of good old-fashioned fun!

Hope your weekend was fabulous!

Cheers,

Shanna :)

What I used:
stamps: CTMH Sprintime (D1415) & April Word puzzle
inks: CTMH - cocoa & crystal blue
papers: Bo Bunny two years old Easter line & Crystal blue CS, dk brown bazzil
embellishments/tools: SU border punch, CTMH ribbon, SU ribbon, prima flower

Paper Sundaes - Distressing

Happy Sundae!
This week's challenge at Paper Sundaes is Distressing. Our sponsor this week is Jenny from Paper Jewels. There is a great selection of these cuted stamps named Mimosa and Mimo and much more including a cutie named Tossa, animals and the Fantasy Art Collection. I can't wait to get my hands on some of the Christmas stamps from the Mimosa collection and add a few more Christmas cards to my stash. Jenny is offering up two stamps for the winner of this week's challenge, so head to your craft room and play along......

The sketch this week from Friday Sketchers was perfect, so I just had to play along. I enjoyed coloring Mimo with my copics and also added some stitching as I thought this card needed something around the outside edge. I am entering this in the Crafty Creations Challenge this week where they want to see stitching on your card.
I have distressed most of the edges on my card using CTMH's edges distresser. This is such a fun tool to play with and because I used textured CS from CTMH, the white core shows through, which I think is so fun.

Well, the boys and I are heading out to a "Winter Carnival" at a local community centre. It is an annual event that my boys really enjoy. Their favorite part is usually the jello eating contest and the penny auction. They also have an old-fashioned fish pond which is a big hit. Should be a fun afternoon!
Sure hope you can play along this week! Happy Sundae!

Shanna :)
What I used:
stamp: Mimosa (Bildmalarna) from Paper Jewels, sentiment SU
papers: CTMH & misc from stash
embellishments: brads, Basic Grey Bling, Prima flowers, machine stitching

Thinking of you

Happy Friday!
I have just a quick post tonight with a simple card. The challenge at Pals Paper Arts right now is KISS - Keep it simple, sweetie - to make a card with lots of "white space" and minimal time investment. This is what I came up with....

I've had this "Beautiful Things" set from CTMH for ages and hadn't yet inked it up. Although I didn't photograph the inside, I've stamped the quote from the same set that reads:

"The best and most beautiful things cannot be seen or even touched, they must be felt with the heart." - Helen Keller

This is my favorite quote and of course, it has extra special meaning since I work with young children who are blind and visually impaired. Helen Keller's story is an amazing one - if you haven't seen the original movie, "The Miracle Worker," you really should. Because I work in the field, it holds special meaning for me.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend,

Shanna :)

Twilight Tueday Inspriation Challenge

I just recently found Twilight Tuesday Challenge Blog and sadly this is their last inspiration challenge. This week's theme is "Love of books, the printed words on a page". Since I needed a masculine Birthday card and the card is actually for a farmer, I pulled out "My Farm" from CTMH and put this together. The sentiment is from "Down on the Farm". The patterned paper is actually an old paper bag I kept from a gift store purchase years ago and found recently. I had fun crumpling it up, flattening it back out, distressing the edges and inking it up before using it as my background image. My spritzer tool from SU was "screaming" to be used for this one and I love how it turned out. I also used some Bella bling and twine to embellish a little.
I couldn't resist using the barbed wire stamp from "My Farm" to frame in my sentiment on the inside. I was happy enough with this one that I actually made two! (Yes, I grew up in farm country and was raised on beef! lol)
I am sorry to see Twilight Tuesdays come to an end, but like they say, "All good things must come to an end." Be sure to go check it out, they are offering up a super fun prize - especially if you are a fan.... :)
Nighty night,
Shanna
Hope you are having a great week!
Shanna :)

Just Skatin' By.....

Good morning!
Here are a couple of cards I whipped up a few weeks back. I have had this cutie Stampendous stamp for eons and had never inked and colored one in! Gasp - can you believe that!!!

So, when I heard that Danderella's girls had been moved up a level in skating (and one of them nominated for an award) I couldn't resist making these. My boys and her girls are like cousins, so the boys enjoyed signing them and giving them to the girls. I made two similar ones as I was on a roll, but I actually made a different skating themed card so each girl would have a unique one. The extra one of these I turned into a Christmas card.
They are pretty much the same, but with different backgrounds. I think I like the first better with the pearls in the top corner. What do you think?
I wont' ramble on today as I am doing this in the morning before work - I just wasn't in the mood last night - must run and get my boys some breakfast!
Happy Wednesday!
Shanna :)
What I used:
stamps: Stampendous
papers: Basic Grey Eskimo Kisses
embellishments: CTMH ribbon, brads, kaiser pearls

Paper Sundaes Challenge #5 - A Glittery Spring

Happy Sundae & Happy Valentine's Day!

This is week Five at Paper Sundaes and this week's challenge is "A Glittery Spring". Our sponsor this week is Paper Makeup. This week's winner will receive a collection of stamps valued at approx. $25.00. Be sure to join us for your chance to win! We can't wait to see your creations.

For my card, I have used the beautiful "Isabella". I have made my first attempt at coloring blonde hair - what do you think? Since most of my family are brunettes, I have a tendency to color hair various shades of brown and have been afraid to attempt blonde - it may also be that I have a larger selection of copics in the brown shades so far than I do in the yellows.

I used the sketch from Sweet Sketch Wednesday #36, and this is how my card turned out -

I really enjoyed working with this sketch!

And here is the simple inside....

And a close-up.... Since this week's challenge is A Glittery Spring, I wanted to make sure you could see the Glamour Dust on Isabella's Wings. I LOVE this stuff! It is very fine and easy to use. With all that glitter, my card also fits the challenge over at Fussy & Fancy.

We would be delighted if you could play along with us this week. Be sure to visit the blogs of my talented co-designers and see what they have to share with you. The list is on my sidebar.

Thanks for stopping by. Happy Sundae!
Shanna :)

Unrelated....

Turns out I really enjoyed the movie hubby brought home last night - "The Time Traveller's Wife" - I wasn't sure I would as I read the book and often I don't care for the movie if I've read the book. I read more than I watch movies, but this one I think they did a great job of and I love how they cast it. And, hubby liked it too - his words were something like..."If this makes me cry...."

My general rule is read the book first, watch the movie only after reading the book. How about you? Have you seen the movie? Read the book? What did you think?

What I used:

stamps: Isabella from Paper Makeup, CTMH sentiment
inks: Petal - CTMH, Memento
papers: DCWV - Nana's Kids with glitter & embossing, bazill bling paper
embellishments: Basic Grey bling it, Prima flower, SU ribbon, Deco Art Glamour Dust on her wings

KLSNS Challenge - Happy Birthday to you...

Okay, it's a quickie post tonight - hubby brought home a movie without checking with me first if he should and I have to get a card done tonight - I don't have the heart to tell him I can't watch it (he brought home "Time Traveller's Wife" which I have read and I know he picked it for me) so I'm going to attempt to do both. Hope the movie isn't too long or I might be up really late!

Anywho...my card is for this week's KLSNS challenge to try paper tole. The DT used colored images and I did not, so I am not 100% sure it qualifies, but here goes.....
I stamped the owl twice and cut out his wings and head and pop-dotted them. I also used my brand new "postage stamp" border punch which I think I am going to love, especially for the more masculine type cards - eyelet and scallops always seem a little girly to me, lol!
So, I put together this rather quick and simple card when I got my owl set out to play. I especially like how the inside turned out as I love the mushrooms in this set. (CTMH - Whoo Loves You)

Don't forget you still have time to play along with us at Paper Sundaes. This week's challenge is a sketch and you could win a great prize! There will be a new challenge on Sunday.
Happy Friday,
Shanna :)

Way to Go - 365 Cards Challenge - White Space - Day #347

Here are a few cards I made up inspired by today's challenge at 365 Cards - White Space. Though I love the sketch, I had a really hard time with carrying out this white space challenge literally, so I did a few "takes". I should mention, the color scheme is based on the branded image for CNIB (the non-profit I work for) as this card is for a co-worker who recently graduated from her course and we were going to present her with a card and her certificate at the same time. Unfortunately, I may have missed it as I missed work the last two days. If I'm too late, I'll just add them to my stash. Still, it will bug me if they had to buy a store-bought card -gasp!

Hmm, I'm not sure if I like the second or the third best. What do you think?

A quick stamp of a tree from the same set finished off the inside.

And since I didn't use any patterned paper, I am also entering this in the La La Weekly Wednesday Challenge which is to NOT use patterned paper.

I hope you are all having a great week! Thankfully, I am starting to feel more like myself. :)

Cheers,

Shanna

What I used:
stamps: Treetops - CTMH, Say it in Style - CTMH
inks: Clover Meadow & Dutch blue - CTMH
embellishments: misc brads and gingham ribbon

King of the Wild Things & Get Sketchy

Here is the card I came up with for this week's Get Sketchy challenge. I purchased this adorable Stamping Bella stamp from DAT'S, my LSS recently, and couldn't wait to ink him up. He is called "King of the Wild Things". I pulled out my Lime Rickey papers and found copics to match and coloured him up. I had fun using these bright, fun colors!

I couldn't resist adding orange stickles to his little "wand". The stickers are from the Basic Grey sticker pack from this line. Pat on the back for me as I usually have such a hard time using stickers.
I hope you are all having a great week. I've not been feeling well, but hoping things will be better soon! The power of positive thinking....
Cheers,
Shanna

KLSNS Challenge Sketch

Good afternoon!

Whew what a week! I have been in such a funk - urgh, I had at least three cards completed for challenges and didn't even get them posted!?! TGIF!

Anyhow, I am determined not to miss the deadline for KLSNS's sketch challenge this week! They had a great sketch, so I just had to ink up my brand new Henry from Whiff of Joy and color him with my copics. Isn't he adorable?

My card is also for Sparkle's weekly Christmas Card Challenge! Be sure to check it out and get your cards done early! It was a big help for me last year and I didn't start until sometime in late Spring. I plan to get them all done early this year!

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend!

Shanna :)

Happy Birthday to you....

Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday dear Krista, Happy Birthday to you!

Here is the card I made for my scrappin' friend's Birthday which happens to be today - have a great day Krista! Kris and I first met taking classes at our LSS, DAT'S. It must have been obvious to Donna at the time that the two of us got along since she kept sitting us together! I had such a laugh one evening when Krista told me what her hubby asked when she got home the last time. Apparently, she mentioned I had been at class and his next question was "Well, did you get anything done?" Sometimes there was a whole lot more talking going on than scrappin! But that's okay, I've met some wonderful friends through scrapbooking and stamping and wouldn't change a thing - even though the bunch of us can attend a 17 hour crop and complete only a single layout of a couple of cards! I've always said that if you want to enjoy papercrafting, you have to enjoy the process! :) Besides, the photos don't go bad right!? Well, enough yaking for now, gotta get this post done and get ready for work!

I had so much fun paperpiecing this card and playing with the yummy papers! Have a fabulous day!
Since this card involves food, I am entering it in the challenge at Stamp Something!

What I used:
stamps: I scream - CTMH (retired), Happy Birthday - CTMH
papers - MME paper pack from Scrapfest, bazzil, blush
embellishments: pearls, misc ribbon, prima flower, cordouroy brad from CTMH, machine stitching
tools: scallop border punch from SU, spritzer tool

XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO

Back to work! Oh well, I guess we can always think about it as one day closer to the next weekend! I have been playing with my fabric again. This particular one is a little piece left over from a pair of boxers I made probably 15 years ago, lol! It just proves you never know when you might NEED it...

I am entering the card in the following challenges:

Clearly Inspired Challenge #6 - to use black/white/red - sponsored by Clear Dollar stamps

Fussy & Fancy - use hearts

What I used:

stamps - CTMH

paper: CTMH, white & black with white core

emebellishments: fabric, machine stitching, gaffer tape (sp?) from 7 Gypsies, prima flower, misc button

tools: CTMH edge distresser

Have a great day!

Shanna :)
