Summer Smash 2013

I realized recently that I never shared my Smash book from last summer. Though it isn't completely finished, I thought I would share the pages that are complete. Be warned, I definitely dug deep into the stash, lol. There are some VERY old stickers on my "title" page!

The fun thing about Smash books is that you can either work with the page or cover it up! When I saw the chair page, I had to photography my nephew's new "Muskoka" chair that matched the big ones and put them on this page.

And Voila, the menu and grocery/equipment list. So glad we did this, it has come in very handy packing for this year's week at camp!

Stay tuned for more pages from last year's summer SMASH.

Thanks for visiting!

40 years - Love is all you need

This is my parent's Anniversary Card. They celebrated 40 years recently so although I mailed them a card at the time, I wanted to make something special to bring when I see them this weekend! I decided to make another starburst card using one of my all-time favourite paper packs from Basic Grey - Out of Print. I love how the patterns mixed so nicely!

A big thanks to Donna over at DAT's My Style for the inspiration to layer a sentiment on top of the number. The number alone wasn't quite right - thanks Donna - you are always inspiring me to try something different!

The current challenge at Shopping Our Stash is "Triple Threat" - you must use three from this list of embellishments (or three of a single embellishment):
ribbon
pearls *
lace
flowers *
spray ink/glimmer mist
rhinestones
doilies
punched or diecut elements *
dry embossing

I used the starred elements.

Here is the inside. I had a blast researching what was happening the year my parents were married! It is hard to see my printing in the first photo, but you may be able to make it out in the next one. I decided to fill in the empty spots with heart stamps, but admittedly, I got a little carried away and the inside of the card looks a bit busy - oh well!

oops, this photo looks crooked - sorry having lots of trouble with my editing program!
Love this quote from my Tim Holtz set.

Thanks so much for your visit!

Is Pooh 2?

My nephew turns 2 in a few days and I wanted to make him a special card. He loves Pooh! He has a small, much loved stuffy he carries around everywhere, plays pretend with, hugs, kisses, sleeps with, so Pooh it was for his card. Since I now have big boys (youngest being 9), it was fun to make a toddler card!

I knew sort of what I wanted to do - include Pooh and the number Two, but it really started to come together when I saw the sketch at Freshly Made.

A peek at the inside.

I used the current sketch at Freshly Made for inspiration. I did flip the sketch and add some elements though.

I would also like to share at the following challenges:

Happy Holidays

Well, I am still searching for the mojo but it might be in reach. I wanted to have a go at the current challenge at Jingle Belles which is "take a header" - to use their blog header as inspiration. I tried to incorporate a number of things found in their beautiful header including snowflakes, pearls, lace, stars and of course, the colours.

To help get me started, I used the starburst technique that I learned a couple of weeks ago at Donna's card class. We made a rectangular card in the class and I was itching to try it on a square card. Here is my card.

And here is the inside.

I would also like to share at:

Do more of what makes you awesome!

Right then, I am currently in search of my mojo...not sure where it went!
Kiddos at sleepaway camp, hubby went out for the morning and it took me hours before I got around to getting a card made. I guess I just wasn't feeling it. So I decided to get started with these fun, bright colours. Though it is a really simple design, I do like the result.

I have been itching to use this fun Unity stamp since I got it back in June. It makes me think of my youngest son whose response to everything is invariably "Awesome!"
Here is a peek at the inside.
.

I would like to share at Seize the Birthday where the optional topping is twine or string, which I managed to use on here.

And if it is okay to enter more than once, I would also like to share at Shopping Our Stash. This week's challenge is to use something you have been using A LOT of lately. Well, washi tape is the one thing (see second to last post) but up-cycling Starbuck's coffee sleeves (corrugated hearts) is the other thing. I can't seem to stop it!

Thanks for visiting!

papers: Simple Stories - I {Heart} Summer

Twine: CTMH

Birthday Greetings

Here is one I made a little while back while playing with some CTMH product and helping my sister come up with a design for her first stamping party. I don't hate how it turned out, but I don't love it either. Ya know, there is one of those every once in awhile. I do love the stamped circle and the textured banners, but I just don't love how it all came together and I was just too lazy to start again from scratch. So here it is in all it's glory, lol!

Thanks for stopping by!

Thanks & Celebrate

The current challenge at Shopping Our Stash is "Can't put it down (or away)!" Since there are piles and stacks of washi all over my scrap space house, and I have begun using it on an pretty much a daily basis (not just on crafting projects, but to hang things up, leave notes for people, to seal envelopes...) this seemed an appropriate thing to use on my card for the current challenge!

I made at least three cards using different CTMH sentiments but using the same washi tapes. Had some fun with these bright and cheery colours!

Hope you are having a great week! I started mine with a super sore back and had to spend the day yesterday with my heating pad and some anti-inflammatory meds, but things seem to be loosening up today so that is welcome news!

Thanks for your visit!
Shanna :)

Happy Holidays

Have been away from the computer and the scrap space for a bit as we went camping this past weekend. Got lucky with the weather and managed to dodge the rain and storms that were forecast. It did rain while we were there, but overnight so it was ok. Saw lots of wildlife - bear (just one and not at our campsite thankfully!), red fox (several, or maybe the same one at our campsite), deer (lots), squirrels, skunk, rabbit and partridge. There were  A LOT of BUGS. So hoping that there will be fewer blood-sucking insects next time! We did a hike totalling 8 km - with a beautiful rocky beach waiting for us on the shore of Lake Supeior at the turn around point - such a relief from the closeness of the forest and the bugs. It is definitely one worth repeating when it is less buggy! Will have to share some pics later - though most probably show us doing what I was referring to as "the bug dance!"

In any case, here is another holiday card for the stash using the same sketch referenced 2 posts back from Freshly Made. I will be using this one over and over again! So happy to have another flat & mailable card done!

This time, I used another great graphic from Kaiser Craft's "Turtle Dove" 6x6 pad that I've had in my stash at least a couple of years. The sentiment is from "Holiday Wishes" by Tina Wenke. Here is a shot with the matching envelope.

For the envelope, I used a few different retired CTMH stamp sets. Been having so much fun with my envelope maker!

Holiday Wishes from the Saturday Evening Post

This card is an alternate version of this card that I made awhile back after finding an awesome stash of Christmas Playing cards at a yard sale!!! What a score! Doesn't this playing card Santa make for a fab focal point?
My son has me in the mood to make Christmas cards - he LOVES Christmas and has been playing Christmas tunes for the last few days even though it is summer time here! Gotta love that boy!

I have managed to incorporate a number of challenges with this one! I rarely combine more than two, but here it goes:

Christmas Card Challenges - Think tags
Inky Chicks - Christmas in July
Shopping Our Stash - "Wooden Boats" - use wood/wood veneer OR boats
Jingle Belles / SOS - special challenge to make a Christmas card using stash at least one year old - some of this stuff is WAY older than that, lol! I think the gingham ribbon has been in my stash for 10 years!
Winter Wonderland - dots & stripes - there are lots of stripes on the inside of my card which I neglected to photograph (will try to edit tomorrow) but there are technically stripes on the corrugated heart I made with recycled Starbuck's sleeves.

Whew! I think that covers it.
Thanks so much for stopping by!

What I used:
papers - Bo Bunny "Rejoice"
map stamp - SU
re-purposed playing card (the Santa image)
recycled Starbuck's coffee sleeve (heart)
bling
antique button

Jingle Belles & Shopping Our Stash Crossover

Jingle Belles and Shopping Our Stash have teamed up for a Christmas In July Challenge. To play along, you need to make a Christmas card using stash that is at least one year old. Here is my card:

All of the stash is at least a couple of years old, some more like 4 or 5 - papers, stamps and embellishments. The design is based on a sketch that Donna was using last week from Freshly Made Sketches. This is such a fabulous sketch and I have had so much fun playing with it. I am especially thrilled when I find a fun way to turn the fabulous scenes sometimes found in paper packs into the focal point of a card. This one is from Kaiser Craft's "Turtle Dove" line. I kept it simple in order to keep the focus on the scene.

Here is another shot with the matching envelope I made.

I'll be back soon. I took advantage of the rain and stormy weather here to spend some time in my craftspace!

paper: Kaiser Craft "Turtle Dove"

You left an imprint on my Heart

This was such a fun paper pack and stamp set to play with! I had no idea what I would end up with when I set out, but this is the result after playing around. Once finished, it seemed to need something more. The next day, I decided it needed some splatters - what do you think? (sorry for the bad photography - bad lighting for the second picture.)

And here is the inside. The "washi" is actually stickers - don't they look great?!? This may just end up being my hubby's anniversary card since we celebrate 14 years at the end of July.

I would like to share at Cute Card Thursday where the challenge is to use stars.

Happy Saturday!
Shanna :)

What I used:
stamps: CTMH Skylark Workshop on the Go stamp set
papers: Simple Stories "I {Heart} Summer 6x6 paper pad

Take a Hike

This little cutie and my sister just spent the last week with us. They flew home to Southern ON last night at dinner time - we are going to miss them so much - thankfully, we will be spending a week with them at Mink Lake at the beginning of August! We had so much fun together! We decided that this visit was just a warm-up for a our week together in August.
His constant companion is "Pooh" as in Winnie the Pooh - he decided to take Pooh for a ride on the horsey, but then got silly, sat on him and laughed his little head off. After Pooh fell on the floor though and he rode over him, he decided he should take him to the "Hopital" for the doctor to check out, lol! There were lots of hugs and kisses to help with the healing.

Here is the July layout for Graham's album. I still have two more to do, but am thrilled I was able to get this one done and send it home with him! The photos are from our week at Mink Lake together last summer!

For Graham's first year album, I included a calendar page on each layout for my sister to record all the important stuff and journal. If you would like to see the other pages of this album, simply type "Graham's baby album" into the search engine at the top of my blog and they should all pop up. It has been such a fun project!

I would like to share my layout at both
Crazy 4 Challenges and Little Red Wagon where the challenge is "summer".

Have a fabulous Friday!

Soccer coach Thank you

Here are the super quick thank you cards I made for the soccer coaches. Had to be quick since I made them the night before! I used their team colours for the card bases. It was fun to pull out my flower soft which I haven't used in a very long time!

Thanks for visiting! I'll be back soon with more projects. My sister and I fit in a bit of scrapbooking during her visit.

Cheers,
Shanna :)
